There is something different about an object made by hand. You can see it in the tiny variations in a print, feel it in the texture of the cotton, and notice it in the way that no two pieces are ever exactly alike. These aren't imperfections to be corrected. They are the marks that tell you a person was there.

At Pink City Heritage, that is what draws us to handmade textiles. In the workshops of Jaipur, block printing is an art that has been passed down through generations. The process is beautifully simple in concept, but extraordinarily skilled in practice. A design is carved into a wooden block, often taking days to complete. The block is dipped into dye and carefully pressed onto cotton, one impression at a time. The artisan lifts the block, aligns it again, and repeats the process across the fabric. Flowers emerge. Paisleys take shape. Vines begin to wander across the cotton. And then the process starts again. It is a rhythm that cannot be hurried.

A machine can reproduce a pattern perfectly thousands of times. A person does something different. A person brings touch, judgment, experience, and intuition to every piece. The placement of a block, the pressure of a hand, the amount of dye — all these small decisions become part of the finished textile.

That is why handmade feels different.

The tradition of block printing in Rajasthan stretches back centuries. Communities of artisans have carried these techniques from one generation to the next, preserving methods that might otherwise have disappeared. In places like Sanganer and Bagru, the craft became particularly renowned, with artisans developing distinctive approaches to color, pattern, and printing. For us, buying a handmade textile is about more than bringing something beautiful into a room. It is about choosing to keep a craft alive.

Every Pink City Heritage piece is made from 100% handmade cotton and sourced directly from artisan workshops in Jaipur. When you choose one, you are supporting the people and traditions behind it — the hands that carved the block, prepared the fabric, mixed the colors, and printed the pattern. And perhaps most importantly, you are bringing home something that doesn't look like everything else.

No two handmade pieces are exactly alike. That's the point.

In a world where so much can be made instantly and identically, there is something special about slowing down and choosing something made with intention. Something made by hand. Something with a story. Something that carries a little bit of Jaipur with it.
